Welcome Back, Returning Officials!

We are thrilled you have opted to return for the 2018 soccer season as a referee! You will have several steps (depending on your grade) that you need to complete to be able to take the field this spring or summer.

The most accurate and easiest way to understand your steps for re-certification is to log into your MNSRC account. In the dark blue column you will see a list of your 2018 Certification requirements and a link to a Video Summary which will show you a YouTube video of the specific re-certification steps for your grade and age. We will cover the individual steps loosely below, but we strongly urge you to log in to see precisely which steps will apply to you.

Step 1: Pay Your State Administrative and US Soccer Registration Fees

The website only allows progress to each step if you have completed the one before it, and the first step you have to complete after creating your account is paying your 2018 fees. These fees are divided into a non-refundable $20 State Admnistrative fee and a US Soccer Referee registration fee that is grade dependent. The MNSRC website accepts payment by credit card only.

Step 2: Complete Your Recertification Test

Once you have paid your registration fees, if you are not a Grade 8 referee upgrading to 7, you will be able to access the "Testing" page from your Referee menu on the left side of the screen (upgrading Grade 8 officials will take their test AFTER they complete the online work). When you click on that, you will gain access to the testing page. You will have to complete the 2016-17 Law Changes videos, after which you will return to the testing page and the "Start Test" button will become available. The type of test you take is dependent on your grade:

*Grade 7 test is taken by upgrading Grade 8 officials AFTER you complete online course requirements

Step 3: Complete your Continuing Education Requirements

Upon passing your recert test, you will be able to access the "Online Material" page from your Referee menu on the left side of the screen. When you click on that, you will gain access to the full online portion of the training. Depending on your grade, you will have a certain requirement of online and/or classroom recertification requirements.

Step 4 (grade dependent): Sign Up For and Attend Your Clinic

If, according the chart in step 3, you are required to attend a classroom session, use the Clinic Sign-Up menu to sign up for the needed clinics to complete classroom hours and finish those requirements.

After completing your CE requirements, the state will certify you and you will receive your registration card in the mail from US Soccer. Your badge and Law book will be mailed to you.

Step 5: MYSA Background Check (for any referee 18 years or older working MYSA games)

If you are 18 years or older, you must complete a background check on the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association website before being able to work youth games. Full instructions for completing the check are available on the MNSRC site. If you will be under 18 years of age for the entire season, you do not need to complete this task.

Step 5: Finish MSHSL Certification

If youare over 18 and are planning to work high school games in the fall, please proceed to the MSHSL website for information on further requirements.
