Welcome Back, Returning Officials!

We are thrilled you have opted to return for the 2021 soccer season as a referee! You will have several steps that you need to complete to be able to take the field this spring or summer.

Downloadable Returning Referee Certification Instructions

The most accurate and easiest way to understand your steps for re-certification is to log into your MNSRC account. In the dark blue column you will see a list of your 2021 Certification requirements and a link to a Summary which will show you a the specific re-certification steps for your grade and age. We will cover the individual steps loosely below, but we strongly urge you to log in to see precisely which steps will apply to you.

Step 1: Pay Your State Administrative and US Soccer Registration Fees

The website only allows progress to each step if you have completed the one before it, and the first step you have to complete is to confirm that you understand the requirements. After doing so, the next step is paying your 2021 fees. These fees are divided into a non-refundable $40 State Admnistrative fee and a US Soccer Referee registration fee that is grade dependent. The MNSRC website accepts payment by credit card only.

Step 2: Complete your Online Requirements

Access the "Online Material" page from your Referee menu on the left side of the screen. When you click on that, you will gain access to the full online portion of the training. You will be required to complete the 2019-2020 Law Changes, 2020 Points of Emphasis, Concussion certification, and 2020-2021 Law Changes for this year.

If you already have a current Concussion certificate (completed in the past 3 years), you can upload that certificate using the Upload button on the Referee menu.

Step 3: Complete Your Recertification Test

Once you complete the online material, you will need to go to the Testing page and pass the Grassroots test. You have unlimited untimed attempts to get a passing score of 40 out of 50.

Step 4: MYSA Background Check and SafeSport Training (18 years or older)

If you are 18 years or older, you must complete a background check on the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association website. Full instructions for completing the check are on that site. If you will be under 18 years of age for the entire season, you do not need to complete this task.

In addition to the Background Check, adult officials must complete SafeSport Training as well.

After completing your CE requirements, the state will certify you and you will receive your registration card in the mail from US Soccer. Your badge will be mailed to you.
